Gemini Group joins the AI Industry Foundation as guest speaker for a seminar on Japan’s approach to AI regulation.
Tokyo, Japan (July 9, 2024) Gemini Group Co-CEOs Kelly Langley and Mickey Langley appeared as guest speakers at “Japan’s AI Frontier: Pioneering Regulatory Innovation,” a seminar hosted by the AI Industry Foundation in Tokyo.
Japan is setting a bold course to become the world’s most AI-friendly nation. The session explored Japan’s distinctive approach to regulating artificial intelligence: how the government is advancing regulatory frameworks designed to foster innovation while ensuring safe and ethical AI deployment, and what the discussions under way at the highest levels of government mean for companies building and deploying AI in Japan.
Drawing on Gemini Group’s public affairs and government relations work, the presentation covered the ongoing policy debate around AI governance in Japan, how Japan’s light-touch, innovation-first posture differs from the regulatory direction taken in other major markets, and how businesses can engage with the framework while it is still being written.
About the speakers
Kelly Langley, Co-CEO is a government affairs specialist with a track record of leading projects for Fortune 500 companies across the technology, energy, healthcare, and defense industries. An active member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), he has championed initiatives advocating for best practices in public policy and regulation, including leading a task force dedicated to the ACCJ’s position on innovation, startups, and FDI. He holds an MBA from GLOBIS University and is fluent in English and Japanese.
Mickey Langley, Co-CEO has over a decade of experience managing operations for a leading public affairs firm in Tokyo, with a focus on project planning, strategy development, public relations, events, and communications. He has also expanded a UK agency into Japan, advising on market entry and branding. He holds an MBA from GLOBIS University and is fluent in English and Japanese.
